Honeywell UK Pension Review for Expats

Worked for Honeywell UK and now live abroad?

Your pension may sit in the Honeywell UK Pension Scheme, often referred to as HUKS. Depending on your service history, it could include legacy DB rights, DC benefits, AVCs, transferred benefits or another section of the scheme.

The real question is not only whether your pension still exists. It is whether you understand exactly what type of Honeywell benefit you hold, what it provides, how it can be accessed and whether it still fits the retirement you are building overseas.

You have the information. Now get advice on what it means for you.

This page can help you understand the key issues. But the right decision depends on your own pensions, investments, tax position, future plans and family circumstances.

If you are unsure what applies to you, or want to understand the best next step before making a decision, book a confidential introductory call with Josh Clancey.

Honeywell UK pension review for expats

A Honeywell UK pension review starts with identifying whether your benefits sit in the Honeywell UK Pension Scheme, commonly known as HUKS.

The scheme has a dedicated WTW member portal, which is an important practical point for former employees. If you have not looked at your Honeywell pension since leaving the UK, this is usually where you should begin: establish the scheme section, request the latest statement and check whether your personal details and beneficiary nominations remain current.

The exact benefit type still matters.

A member with legacy DB benefits may have a promised pension income, deferred revaluation before retirement, pension increases after retirement and spouse or dependant benefits. A member with DC benefits may have a fund value, investment strategy, charges and retirement-access options that need reviewing separately.

The Honeywell UK Pension Scheme also has identifiable trustee governance through Honeywell UK Pension Scheme Trustee Limited. Public governance material confirms the scheme has ongoing implementation and investment oversight, but member-specific documents are needed to establish the exact section and benefits you hold.

Before making any transfer, consolidation or retirement decision, a former Honeywell employee should confirm:

  • Whether their benefits sit in HUKS.
  • Whether they hold DB, DC, AVC, hybrid, legacy, transferred or safeguarded benefits.
  • Which section applies to their own service history.
  • Whether they can access their current records through the WTW pension portal.
  • How any DB pension is revalued before retirement.
  • How pension income increases once in payment.
  • What funds, charges and retirement strategy apply to any DC benefits.
  • Whether spouse, civil partner, dependant or beneficiary benefits remain appropriate.
  • How the Honeywell pension fits their overseas tax position, future spending currency and wider retirement income plan.

Why your Honeywell UK pension may need reviewing

HUKS may be more than one type of pension

Former Honeywell employees may hold legacy DB benefits, DC benefits, AVCs or another section within the Honeywell UK Pension Scheme. The first step is identifying exactly what applies to you.

The WTW portal is a useful starting point

Honeywell pension records and member communications may be available through the dedicated WTW HUKS portal. This can help you confirm your current statement, scheme section and contact details.

DB security and DC flexibility are different

A DB pension may provide secure income and pension increases. DC benefits may offer investment choice and pension freedoms. These should not be compared as though they are the same type of asset.

Your pension needs to fit life abroad

A Honeywell pension built around UK employment should be reviewed against tax residency, future spending currency, retirement income needs and cross-border beneficiary planning.

What to check before making decisions about your Honeywell UK pension

1

Are your benefits in HUKS?

Confirm from your latest statement or the WTW portal that your pension sits in the Honeywell UK Pension Scheme.

2

What type of pension do you hold?

Confirm whether your benefits are DB, DC, AVC, hybrid, legacy, transferred or safeguarded.

3

Which scheme section applies to you?

Your joining date, service history and employment category may affect your retirement age, pension increases, death benefits and transfer terms.

4

Can you access the WTW portal?

Check that you have current online access and that your contact details, address and communication preferences are up to date.

5

How does your DB pension increase?

If you have DB benefits, request written confirmation of deferred revaluation before retirement and pension increases once income starts.

6

What investment strategy applies to DC benefits?

Check whether you are in a default, lifestyle, target-date or self-selected investment approach and whether it still suits your plans.

7

What charges apply?

For DC benefits, review annual management charges, transaction costs and any member-borne fees.

8

What retirement options are available?

Check normal retirement age, early retirement terms, lump sum rules, transfer rights, drawdown access and any section-specific restrictions.

9

Are your beneficiary nominations up to date?

Review your expression of wish or nomination after moving country, marrying, divorcing, having children or changing your estate-planning arrangements.

Still scrolling? It is probably time to book a call.

Reading can help you understand the issues. But it cannot tell you what is right for your pension, retirement plans, investments, tax position or family circumstances.

If you are facing a financial decision, or simply know your current arrangements need reviewing, a conversation is usually more useful than another hour of research.

Why Honeywell pensions can be more complicated for expats

Honeywell has a long UK history across aerospace, automation, industrial technology, engineering, performance materials and advanced manufacturing. Former employees may have worked in technically demanding and internationally mobile roles, then moved into positions across the Middle East, Europe, North America or Asia.

That can leave a former employee with a UK pension built around one phase of their career, while the rest of their financial life now sits elsewhere.

The Honeywell UK Pension Scheme can be more complicated than it first appears for several reasons.

First, a former employee may not know what type of benefit they have. They may remember contributions going into a workplace pension, but have older DB rights from earlier service. Others may have AVCs or transferred-in benefits that sit alongside their main pension.

Second, scheme branding can become distant after international relocation. Someone who has spent years overseas may no longer recognise HUKS, may have lost portal access or may not have updated their address. That creates a risk of making decisions based on outdated information.

Third, DB and DC benefits require different analysis. A DB pension should be assessed as future secure income, including pension increases and dependant benefits. A DC pension should be assessed by reference to investment strategy, charges, retirement timing and how income might be drawn.

Fourth, engineering and industrial careers can create pension fragmentation. A former Honeywell employee may also hold pensions from Siemens, ABB, GE, Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems, Shell, BP, GKN, Emerson or another technical employer.

Fifth, retirement abroad makes the wider planning question more important. The Honeywell pension should be reviewed alongside tax residence, future spending currency, other pensions, investments, expected retirement date, income sequencing and estate planning.

A good Honeywell pension review should therefore be evidence-led:

  • Confirm membership of the Honeywell UK Pension Scheme.
  • Identify the exact section and benefit type.
  • Review the latest documents available through WTW.
  • Check pension revaluation, increases and death benefits for DB rights.
  • Review investment funds, charges and retirement pathways for DC benefits.
  • Establish whether AVCs or transferred benefits require separate consideration.
  • Update beneficiary nominations.
  • Compare the pension with your wider retirement objectives abroad.

A SIPP or International SIPP may offer investment choice, consolidation and flexible drawdown. But those advantages should be compared carefully against any Honeywell DB guarantees, pension increases, dependant benefits, workplace charges and safeguarded features.

Letter of Authority

Josh can request a Letter of Authority from you so the Honeywell pension scheme, provider or administrator can share information with both you and Josh for review and analysis purposes. This does not allow Josh to act on your behalf, transfer your pension, withdraw money, change investments or make any decisions. It is used solely to gather the information needed to analyse the pension properly.

What your Honeywell UK pension review may lead to

Keep the Honeywell pension where it is

This may be appropriate where your pension provides valuable secure DB income, pension increases, spouse benefits, suitable DC investment options or protected retirement features.

Compare consolidation options

If you hold several old pensions from Honeywell or other engineering employers, consolidation may improve visibility, but only after checking whether any valuable benefits could be lost.

Review SIPP or International SIPP options

A SIPP may offer flexibility, investment choice and drawdown access, but it must be compared carefully against Honeywell DB guarantees, workplace terms and protected features.

Build a retirement income plan

Your Honeywell pension should be reviewed alongside other pensions, investments, cash, tax, currency and future spending needs.

Important information

This page is for general information only.

It does not constitute personalised financial, tax, legal, pension transfer, investment or retirement advice.

Scheme details should always be verified directly with the Honeywell UK Pension Scheme trustee, WTW, the relevant scheme administrator, provider or official member documentation.

Pension transfers, consolidation, drawdown, tax treatment, DB pensions, DC pensions, AVCs, hybrid benefits, transferred benefits, legacy benefits, safeguarded benefits, death benefits and retirement options depend on personal circumstances and may change.

Transferring a pension can be irreversible and may result in the loss of valuable guarantees, protected features or benefits.

Defined benefit, hybrid, legacy and safeguarded benefit transfers require particular care and may require regulated UK pension transfer advice.

For Honeywell UK Pension Scheme members, particular care may be needed where benefits sit in a DB section, DC arrangement, AVC account, transferred benefit, legacy section, safeguarded benefit or multiple historic employment records.

Investing involves risk. Pension and investment values can fall as well as rise, and you may get back less than you invest.

Review your Honeywell pension before making the decision

If you worked for Honeywell UK and now live abroad, your pension may be an important part of your retirement plan. Review your HUKS section and retirement-income role properly before transferring, consolidating or drawing income.
